The City of Kent is located in southern King County and is centrally located in the Green River Valley, half way between Seattle to the north and Tacoma to the south. Kent serves nearly 130,000 residents, making it the sixth largest city in the state.

The City of Kent provides a full range of governmental services in five broad categories: public safety, public works, parks and recreation, economic and community development and general government.

  • Public Safety provides police, municipal court, corrections and code enforcement services.
  • Public Works encompasses city engineering services, street maintenance and water, sewer, and drainage utility operations.
  • Parks and Recreation includes park and recreation field maintenance, recreation and cultural programs, human service resources and an 18-hole golf course and driving range.
  • Economic and Community Development core services consist of administration and enforcement of land development, infrastructure and building codes, inspections and business recruitment and expansion efforts.
  • General Government provides city-wide administrative, legal, financial and human resources services.

The Finance Department provides oversight of the city's debt management function, including responsible issuance of debt to fund qualifying capital projects, determining structures, terms and conditions for all city debt, maintaining records of bonded indebtedness and ensuring timely payment of debt.
